Welcome to My First Ever… Series! I want to share all my firsts with you. Each post in this series will highlight the first book I have ever read in various genres of romance. I may love, hate or be indifferent to the book. It’s just my first. You are welcome to share your first with me in the comments below!
Since this is the first post, naturally I will share with you my First Ever Romance Book (In my adult life):
Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance
Heat Level: HOT
POV: Single (Heroine)
Publication Date: May 25, 2011
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.
Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.
I absolutely loved this series! I’m not doing a detailed review because millions of people have read this book already. I will be honest. I read this book because of the hype. I was just curious to see what everyone was so excited about.
I ask myself sometimes if I would have loved it as much if I read it as the seasoned reader I am now and the answer is I’m not sure. It certainly is not the best book I’ve read. However I will always be grateful for reading this book because it introduced me to a whole world of reading romance books. Initially starting with New Adult and then realizing wow, there are tons of different genres of romance I had no idea existed.
This book as you know has gone on to become a motion picture film. I have to confess these movies make me sad. I watched the first movie and I was so disappointed. However, I have yet to love any movie made based on a book I’ve read. When people say the book is always better is not a cliche. It just really is the way it is in my opinion.
So while I currently don’t even read BDSM books, Fifty Shades will always be in my top favorites shelf because it opened the door to this amazing multi dimensional world of romance books.
