Book Review: Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry

Behind the Bars 4.37.31 PM

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

I was the awkward musician, and she was the high school queen.

The only things we had in common were our music and our loneliness.

Something in her eyes told me her smile wasn’t always the truth.

Something in her voice gave me a hope I always wished to find.

And in a flash, she was gone.

Years later, she was standing in front of me on a street in New Orleans.

She was different, but so was I. Life made us colder. Harder. Isolated.

Even though we were different, the broken pieces of me recognized the sadness in her.

Now she was back, and I wouldn’t make the mistake of letting her go again.

When I first met Jasmine Greene, she came in as raindrops.

When we met again, she was the darkest storm.

An emotionally gripping and heartbreaking second chance romance! This is the love story of Eli and Jasmine, two polar opposites who fit together perfectly and found their love behind the bars.

“I hadn’t known a girl like her could have a great time with a boy like me.”

When these two first meet, Elliott is a small, skinny kid who suffers from stuttering. He gets bullied on a regular basis and when the pretty new girl in school gives him attention, he can’t believe it. Jasmine is drawn to Elliott initially because of his music and then was drawn by his kind heart and sweet nature.

“He was so nervous at all points in his life, except for when that saxophone was in his hands… Because of jazz, Elliott was able to breathe.”

I loved seeing Eli and Jazz falling in love. Their love was so pure and innocent. They were two very lonely people who just clicked together well. By unfortunate events they get separated for a few years and when they meet again Jasmine realizes that Eli is not the guy she used to know. Who she meets is a really hot sexily built guy who has been hardened by life and now has a jaded heart.

Elliott’s pain was real. His circumstances will slay you. The unfairness of it all will anger you. Jazz was so patient with him. This was true love. Sticking it out through the bad times. She was the only one able to reach Eli and when this couple reconnect, it’s nothing short of epic.

“You’re the music in a mute world, and my heart beats because you’re here.”
