Book Review | From Lukov With Love

Blurb (8)

lukovIf someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.

After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.

But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything. Including Ivan Lukov.

This book has now tied with The Wall of Winnipeg and Me as my favorite slow burn romance! I loved the teasing and the anticipation of more! For me, THIS. BOOK. WAS. PERFECTION! This is FEEL GOOD Romance!!! Books like this take me to my happy place and are the whole reason I read.

This is an enemies to lovers romance. Jasmine is the sister of Ruby from Dear Aaron. Her career as a figure skater has not been successful unlike Ivan who is a decorated athlete. Forces bring these two together to skate in pairs and they go head to head from the start. Jasmine is a very feisty character and she lived her life being true to herself and essentially not giving a crap about what others thought about her. She was very stubborn but so was Ivan. The banter and fighting made the best foreplay! I also loved that these two became best friends before anything sexual happened. It was a very natural progression.

“If I had to choose anyone to help me bury a body, eat dinner with, or watch television with, it would be you, every time for everything.”

I normally love male POV but we only have Jasmine’s thoughts in this book. For some reason this just works in this type of book. We are left guessing what is going on in Ivan’s head. Is he flirting? What is that look he just gave Jasmine? Does he find her attractive? Is he turned on right now but pretending to be nonchalant? Why is he taking such good care of her? Is he just starting to care for her as a friend or is this now something more? The possibilities are endless and my mind was going crazy in the best of ways trying to figure it out.

At the beginning, Ivan was this cold, distant character who thought he was better than everyone else. By the end he still had his arrogance and cocky persona but we see his tenderness and his need to protect Jasmine. He believed in Jasmine even when she didn’t believe in herself. I also loved this man’s honesty! He didn’t play any games. He laid it out for Jasmine even if it completely threw her off balance.

“…I’m okay with you having ten other people be your favorite. But you’re always going to be my favorite person… Always. No matter what.”

I have to say that I absolutely loved this Santos family! We get introduced to them in Dear Aaron but we really get to know them in this book. Their mom was fabulous. This is where Jasmine gets her spitfire personality. I loved Jojo, he was such a funny character. Of course we get more of Ruby and Aaron and their kids! I really hope the other sister Talia gets a book so we see more of this family.

Now listen, there are no big plot twists or a lot of overdramatized scenes in this book. Most of this book is about Jasmine and Ivan’s daily routines and interactions at the skating rink and at home. However, you will love this couple! They will make you laugh and swoon! There is nothing sweeter than the slow burn of an honest, feel good romance.
