Black History Month | Celebrating Romance Novels with Black MCs

This has been a busy month but I could not let February pass without acknowledging Black History Month. It’s just a fact that black main characters are underrepresented in the romance book industry. This is probably because only a small percentage of romance books are written by people of color. Take a look at this report by the Ripped Bodice on the state of racial diversity in romance publishing.

One of the goals I’ve set for myself is to read romance books with more diversity. There is an increasing trend in the popularity of these books which is fantastic and the only way it will continue to grow is if we the readers support these authors.

Here are a few of my favorite books with black main characters.

Pepper Pace Books

Check out my post on Interracial Romance where I review these three books. I am a huge fan of interracial romance books and this is a specialty of Pepper Pace. Her characters are always unique and her books never disappoint in sexiness, chemistry and passion.

GRIP Series by Kennedy Ryan

I can’t say enough great things about this series. This also features an interracial couple.  These books were more than a great romance . They were thought provoking, relevant and all consuming. Absolutely EPIC! The books should be read in order. Flow (Grip, #0.5) is FREE on Amazon. Here are my reviews for GRIP (GRIP, #1) and STILL (GRIP, #2).

A Brother’s Honor by Brenda Jackson

This is Book 1 of The Grangers Series. These books tell the stories of 3 sexy, successful brothers. These romance books also have a suspense theme which keeps it more than interesting. Here is my review of A Brother’s Honor.

Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry

Behind the Bars 4.37.31 PM

An emotionally gripping and heartbreaking second chance romance. I have so many favorite quotes from this book. The writing is truly amazing. Here is my 5 Star Review.

I hope you check out some of these books and enjoy them as much as I have. Please leave any book recommendations you may have in the comments. Thanks in advance!
