The topic for March is My First Ever Paranormal Romance

My First Paranormal Romance was Dark Lover by J.R. Ward

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood.

The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

Dark Lover is Book 1 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. The Brotherhood is a group of vampire warriors that defend their race against their main enemy the  Omega and his lessening society. This is a genre of romance that a few years ago, I would never have even considered reading. I tried this book just because I was in a book rut and wanted to try something different. Well, I’m so freaking glad I did. I loved this book so much! It was an amazing start to this kick ass series.

This book introduces us to the brotherhood but focuses on the King, Wrath and how he meets his mate Beth. This guy is the sexiest alpha male. Talk about dominant and possessive. He brings Beth into their world because unbeknownst to her, she is actually a vampire herself about to undergo the change. Poor Beth had no idea what was in store for her.

“You don’t know this yet. But you are Mine”
– Wrath”

The chemistry was so great with these characters. This was a power couple. They both had strong personalities and well deserving of the King and Queen title for the race.

An overwhelming, possessive instinct flashed through him. With dread, he realized he wanted to mark her. Mark her as his. He wanted that special scent all over her so no other male would come near her. So that they would know whom she belonged to. So that they would fear the repercussions of wanting to possess her for themselves.

There is a lot of action in this book and it has such an amazing storyline. There is also an element of humor that runs through these books that just makes it more enjoyable. I became so invested in not only the main character but also the other Brothers.  While each book is about a different character and there are no cliffhangers, I highly recommend reading these books in order because additions to the overall background story build with each book.

Essentially this series became an addiction. You can’t read just one. So far I’ve read up to Book 9. So far there are 16 total Books in the series. I highly recommend this series. If you have not read paranormal romance before, this is a great one to start with.

Do you remember your first Paranormal Romance?

    1. I think there are some BDB books that are definitely better than others. Book 1 was one of the best. I’ve never heard of the Shannon Drake series. Looking it up.

  1. I wouldn’t say the SD series is amazing, it’s very old school vampire romance, but it certainly set me on my PNR path. (also fun fact, Shannon Drake is actually Heather Graham)

    1. Fair warning. This series is addictive. You can’t read just one 🤣

      1. Ha! Ha! Book 16 just released last week. I’m on book 8 or 9. I forget.
