Book Review | Rise by Dylan Allen

Blurb (8)

As a little girl, I saw my father destroy the family he claimed to love. I watched my mother waste her life dreaming of a man who left her without a second glance.

As a woman, I don’t dream, I work. I don’t fall in love, I focus. I would never let anything as frivolous as love distract me.

Until I meet Simon. A gorgeous, brilliant young architect with dark eyes, a sweet smile, and a dirty, dirty mouth. He sets me on fire, and suddenly all I can do is dream…of his hands, his lips, his body. Of a heart good enough and a love strong enough to make me believe in happily ever after.

But Simon has secrets that are even deeper than mine. Will our pasts destroy everything we’ve worked for? Or will we find the courage to rise to the challenge and fight for the love we share?

Right now I’m wondering what rock I was living under that I’m just reading this book now. This was absolutely brilliant! Addie and Simon’s story will stay with me for a long time. Officially one of my favorite couples!

From their first meeting Addie and Simon are drawn to each other. They each have their reasons for avoiding relationships but there is an undeniable magnetism between these two.

“You are so fucking beautiful. I think you might be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I feel tormented by it.”

Addie has experienced betrayal first hand. She saw her father leave without a trace and watched her mother continue to hold on to the love of a man who didn’t seem to care about them. She refuses to become like her mother and so she keeps people at arm’s length. She never wants to be dependent on a man emotionally or financially. So her life’s goal is to become successful in her career and she refuses to be distracted.

Simon had his own reasons for not wanting to be distracted by a relationship as well. I won’t spoil it for you but let me just say that this was such a GREAT man! I loved his heart and his passion! His focus to take care of his family was so inspiring! There was so much sexual tension while these two try and fight their connection. This book was so perfectly sexy!

I loved the background story around Addie’s family and I’m excited to see what happens in the next book. This can be read as a standalone. There is no cliffhanger but I’m dying to read the other books in the series which focuses on her sisters. So highly recommended!
