I’m not exactly the social type. After spending most of my formative years in prison, I prefer an isolated existence in the wilderness of Canada’s Northwest Territories, making what little cash I need guiding tourists to the best hunting grounds. I have no desire for company; I crave solitude instead, especially during the subarctic winter months, but what am I supposed to do when I come across a woman in distress? I can’t just leave her to die in the cold, and a storm is on the way.
So now we are confined to my secluded cabin, and I quickly realize there’s something not quite right about Seri—or is her name Netti? She switches moods faster than a snowshoe hare changes direction. In fact, I’m starting to think there’s more than one person behind the mystifying woman’s intense, green eyes.
Physically, only two of us are trapped inside the rustic cabin, but I still feel outnumbered.
So unique! A refreshing storyline that completely messed with my mind and I absolutely LOVED it!
So from the blurb and cover, you probably have some hint as to where this story goes but this review is spoiler free. The location of the story kind of sets the stage for the crazy journey that is this book. Bishop is an ex con who lives in a remote cabin in the woods where the weather on a good day is 20 below zero. He lives with no electricity and gets drinking water from a well. What he does have though is complete privacy with no neighbours which is just the way he wants it.
Unforeseen circumstances have him taking in a woman to give her shelter during the winter. At first he is all out of sorts because he loves his isolation. So from the blurb we see that Seri is not quite right but this is the first glimpse we get from Bishop’s thoughts that he is not quite right either. Over time though Seri starts to grow on him and he actually starts to like her.
The dynamics between these characters was so fascinating. Bishop seemed to take the crazy that Seri brought with stride. If I’m being totally honest there were some parts of this book that I was legit scared. You know when you watch a horror film and you cover your face but peek through your fingers? That’s how I felt and I was flipping high on the adrenaline rush for this entire book!!
Now this is a romance book and we get just the right amount of sexy. We also get to see the sweet and dare I say romantic side of Bishop at times. He was a fierce protector of Seri and when I think about it, if there was any man that would love a woman like Seri, it would be Bishop.
I highly recommend this romantic psychological thriller and I promise it will not disappoint!! You will get action, an unpredictable storyline and of course romance, as messed up and crazy as it may seem!
