I am so honored to share my interview with Jessica Ruben. Jessica is the author of the newly released Rising (Vincent & Eve, #1). This is Jessica’s debut novel! I’m so glad I took a chance on this book. I was completely blown away. The hero Vincent is now one of my favorite book boyfriends! Read below to get to know more about the author of this amazing book.
Jessica Ruben lives and works in New York City, where she spends her days dominating in the court room as an attorney. Come nightfall, she writes romances centering on gorgeous alpha males and the intelligent women who love them. Jessica is an insatiable reader, and will devour a few books a week without batting an eyelash. Books have always been her drug of choice, and she has no plans on detox anytime soon. She has three wildly delicious children and a husband who, for reasons unimaginable to her, loves her brand of crazy.
Tell us what your life was like pre-book?
My life pre-book is basically the same as life post-book! I’m a lawyer in New York City. I have three amazing kids, ages 1, 6, and 7. And there’s my husband, who I’m crazy about.
Have you always wanted to be an author?
Yes. Truly from the bottom of my heart, the answer is yes. When I was in first grade I wrote a true story about my cousin Eddie who got lost on a raft in the middle of the ocean. My teacher was so in love with it that she made copies and handed it out to the class. I think I knew at that moment that this is my calling.
Which authors serve as your role models?
I love Penny Reid. Amy Harmon. Ginger Scott. Paullina Simons. But I’m also a lover of the “classics.” The Great Gatsby will always be one of my favorites.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Describe what Rising is about in one sentence
Rising is about a girl who’s trying to escape her difficult life but while on that path, meets an enigmatic man who turns her inside out.
When did you get inspired to write Vincent and Eve’s story and how long did it take you to write?
Funny enough, Vincent and Eve used to be one book. It took me a little under a year. But after some serious consideration, I thought it would do better as a set of three. I’m very happy with that choice.
The hero Vincent is an underground MMA fighter. Did anyone inspire his character?
No. While he technically fights MMA underground, I wouldn’t say that’s what Vincent “is.” Still though, he’s totally made up!
For this debut novel, did you find it difficult to write those sexy scenes between Vincent and Eve?
No. I was so in love with the characters that steamy scenes just felt RIGHT between them. It’s intimacy between two people in love. And to me, nothing’s more beautiful and real.
Rising is Book 1 of 3 in the Vincent & Eve series. Do you have a timeline on when the 2nd book will be released?
I am hoping it will be ready in June!
LET’S GET BOOK PERSONAL
Are there any romance tropes that you will absolutely not read or write about? Nope!
Favorite books you always recommend: The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. It’s just the greatest love story of all time, in my opinion.
