Book Review | The The Coppersmith Farmhouse by Devney Perry

coppersmithOne old farmhouse brought them together. It could also tear them apart.
Gigi has just uprooted her whole world to start a new life. The unexpected gift of a farmhouse in small-town Montana is just what she and her daughter need to escape big-city loneliness. The last thing she needs is attitude from the town’s sheriff, the most perfectly attractive and ruggedly handsome man she’s ever laid eyes on—and a complete jerk.
Jess knows all about women like Gigi. Beautiful. Sexy. Scheming. She’s stolen his sanctuary, the farmhouse that should have been his. But along with a face full of freckles, she’s got a sharp wit and a backbone of steel—something he doesn’t discover until after making a complete fool of himself. If he can earn back her trust and win her heart, he might just find the home he’s always needed.

This is what you call comfort reading! I live for these small town romances with alpha male heroes with hearts of gold that completely sweep me off my feet.

It’s not exactly love at first sight for Gigi and Jess. There is definitely attraction but Jess acts like a complete douchebag on their first few encounters. He has his own misguided reasons but Gigi is completely thrown off by his bad attitude. Once these misconceptions are cleared up Jess has decided that Gigi is the woman for him and he persists despite her fear of having a relationship with him. I loved how possessive he was and his take charge attitude to claim Georgia had me falling so hard for this man.

“Are you trying to piss me off, Sheriff? I don’t like your tone. You don’t get to order me around and make the decision we’re dating without my agreement. That’s absurd. It doesn’t work like that.”
“It does. And we are. Exclusively, Georgia,”

Jess has spent his whole life taking care of other people and especially as the town’s sheriff, most people depend on him. He extends that overprotective nature to Georgia and her daughter Rowan and goes over the top to take care of her and do things for her, most times without her consent. Georgia is used to doing everything herself and she carries a baggage of insecurities which makes it hard for her to accept Jess’s love. Somehow though Jess ends up winning every argument so he can take care of ‘his girls’. Seriously this man was EVERYTHING! The way he accepted Rowan as his own and doted on her had my heart doing somersaults.

There is an added element of suspense in the book as Jess tries to solve a slew of crimes that have recently occured in their small town. We get some action packed scenes and a few twists and turns that was a great background story. This actually reminded me of a KA book and I say that as a huge compliment. I don’t mean this is an imitation, in fact this is my second book by Devney Perry and I realize this author has her own unique style of writing that has me completely infatuated.

Pick this one up if you are ready for a swoon worthy romance with small town feels and a hint of suspense to keep you entertained.
