Book Review | The Risk (Briar U #2) by Elle Kennedy

riskA sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy. THE RISK takes you back to the world of hot hockey players, feisty heroines, bro banter, and steamy scenes…

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

the risk

This was pure new adult goodness! Witty and fun banter laced with so much sexual tension! A swoon worthy star hockey player and a sassy strong willed heroine heat up these pages with intense chemistry and an emotional love story of enemies to lovers.

Jake is the guy every girl wants as a college boyfriend. He’s the hockey team captain, has a quiet confidence that borders on arrogance and sexy as hell. As captain of the Harvard Hockey team, he is also the enemy as far as Brenna is concerned. Her father is the coach of Briar’s hockey team which is their #1 Rival. However, sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants.

Brenna very grudgingly has to ask Jake to be her fake boyfriend to secure an internship. The more time they spend together, the harder it is for her to deny she has feelings for the enemy. These two fall into such an easy relationship. Their is attraction of course and their banter is fun, sexy and had me smiling SO HARD! They are both strong and stubborn characters so they bumped heads a lot. I loved watching their passionate fighting turn to passionate lovemaking. This was the perfect enemies to lovers romance!

I have to mention the secondary characters here. Top prize goes to Hollis and Rupi! I loved these two so much! They were hilarious and I would love to have a novella with them. I don’t know if I could manage a whole book with them but I definitely need more!

Also points to Elle for having actual game time in this book and keeping me not only interested but dying to find out how it played out. Imagine that for this non-sports fan.

Elle Kennedy has perfected the formula for an amazing college romance! This was fun and effortless to read and also had emotional high points where these lovers really connected. Really enjoyed this one and I’m hoping Hunter’s book is next!
