Book Review | Savaged by Mia Sheridan

savagedWhen wilderness guide, Harper Ward, is summoned to the small town sheriff’s office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage.

But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he? And how is it possible that he’s lived alone in the forest since he was a small child?

As secrets begin to emerge, Harper is thrust into something bigger and more diabolical than she ever could have imagined. And standing right at the center of it all, is Lucas. But is he truly the wild man he appears to be? A cold blooded killer? An innocent victim? Or a perplexing mix of all three?

Harper must find out the answers to these questions because the more time she spends with him, the more she risks losing her heart.

OMG! THIS BOOK!!! AMAZING! I’m completely blown away! It’s been days since I read this and I can’t get this story out of my mind. Absolutely phenomenol! Continue to read my spoiler free review but I know I could never do this book justice.

Sometimes miracles—like love—arrived gently. Softly. Without fanfare. Without a lightning strike. For true miracles needed no such thing.

This was a love story like no other! A a budding romance set against a backdrop of a mysterious storyline with so many surprises and plot twists. Lucas grew up in the wild on his own and truly should have been a savage but instead this man was a SURVIVOR. His heart was so pure and so good. He had no teaching or influence from other people and yet the choices he mad were instinctively selfless and kind. I felt all his pain and the suffering and loneliness he had to endure in the wilderness made my heart ache so much. It was amazing to see the spectacular man he becomes despite the odds. Is it possible for your heart to weep because you love a ficitional charcater too much? Because it felt like mine did!

Harper is a character who is a bit lost. She is searching for closure because of events in her past. She also grew up bouncing from one foster family to another. She and Lucas share the similarity of growing up without family and learning to live with loneliness. The way in which these two meet is a bit serendipitous and you’ll understand this more when you read the book. They are drawn to each other in the most simple and natural but profound way.

“…You whispered to me. And I whispered back. You heard, didn’t you?”
Her heart beat with love for him, at the sweetness of what he’d said. She nodded. “Yes, I heard.”

I have no idea why the innocence and naivete of Lucas is so damn sexy. He has no formal teaching of sex obviously. All the basics he learned from observing the animals. Watching him explore his sexuality with Harper was so freaking HOT! He was nervous and vulnerable but he was also a ball of raw, primal need and it was seriously intriguing to see how he acted on just his basic instincts. At times his animal nature came out and watching that unleash… OMG! I could not get enough!

There is a criminal investigation and mystery unfolding throughout this book and Mia Sheridan is just a masterful storyteller. The way the events of the past tie in with th events of the future was just genius. The story just flowed seamlessly and I was SO ENGAGED and SO INTRIGUED for the entire book. And the ending! OMG! Just brilliant!

I would give all the stars in the world if I could. This is a book I wish I could read all over again for the first time. If you read any book this year let it be this one.
