Book Review | Heartland (True North #7) by Sarina Bowen

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000031_00006]An emotional friends to lovers romance full of risky secrets and late-night lessons in seduction.

Dylan is my best friend, and the only person in my life who understands me. He doesn’t mind my social awkwardness or my weird history. The only glitch? He doesn’t know that I’ve been hopelessly, desperately in love with him since the first day we picked apples together in his family’s orchard.
But I know better than to confess.
Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me.
Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.
But the cool morning light shows me how badly I’ve endangered our friendship. And I don’t know if anything will be the same again.

MY REVIEW

4 STARS

This is Book 7 in the True North series but can be read as a standalone.

This was such a great friends to lovers new adult romance! The Shipley family is one of my favorite book families and Dylan, the youngest Shipley was just so sexy and so sweet.

There is a bit of unrequited love as Chastity has been in love with Dylan for a long time. While Dylan obviously finds Chastity attractive, he hasn’t allowed himself to think of her in a sexual manner because of her past. Chastity ran away from a religious cult where women were treated as the inferior sex and older men took multiple young wives whether they liked it or not. Dylan viewed Chastity as naive and sexually innocent much to her dismay but he learned fairly quickly that her sexual appetite was just as big as his.

They end up going to the same college where Dylan is a classic manwhore. He refuses to do relationships and avoids committments where possible. Despite him acting like the classic college guy, I loved that he was still a farm boy at heart. Every weekend he went home to help his older brother Griffin with the farm and do chores. His love for his family and the farm was obvious and he was proud of where he came from.

When Dylan and Chastity both acknowledge their attraction to each other, the chemistry is seriously intense. I found Dylan SO CHARMING! He has a natural charisma that was just so endearing and a dirty mouth in the bedroom that I didn’t see coming. Initially they both agree that the relationship will only be sexual even though Chastity secretly wants more. During all of this, there is some goat milking and caramel making and of course trying to hide their relationship from their families.

Eventually Dylan gets it together and realizes he is in love with Chastity and what they have is so much more than sex. Yes he took a while to get there but he’s a college guy so I gave him a break. He also sorts out a lot of feelings he had over his father’s death which got me all emotional. He also mends his relationship with Griff who struggled to see him as a future business partner and not just his youngest sibling.

This was another great edition to the True North series. Seriously sexy and heartwarming!
